Store was barely holding it together—half the registers down, lines wrapping around the aisles, and I was stuck restocking soup because the morning shift didn’t bother. That’s when they showed up.
Two suits, clipboard in hand, strolling through like royalty. They stopped at the end of my aisle, watching me struggle with a toppled display of chicken noodle cans. One of them smiled and said, “We just wanted to check in, see how the team’s doing.”
I muttered something about being short-staffed, but he cut me off with, “You know, a positive attitude goes a long way. Customers love a friendly face. Try smiling more.”
He patted my shoulder like he’d just changed my life and walked off, clipboard clutched like a scepter. I watched them leave, stared at the soup cans on the floor, and whispered, “Yes, friend. This is fine.”
