If the Foreword is by David Doak then we all know what to expect. A whole lot of westerners with no inside understanding of Nintendo.

"And every one of those profiles is written by a developer involved in the game, or a game journalist with a deep connection with the N64."

I wonder which it is weighted towards...

Most 90s western devs aren’t alive atm. Andy O’Neil is dead and Gen X. Joe Miller left us all too soon. Then there’s countless more Gen Xers such as Michael John Matsch, Ryan Brant, Jim Mackonochie, Mark Adams, Paul Steed, Jeremy Soule, Erik Bethke, Hal Milton, Daniel Cook, and Keith Zabalaoui. It’s hard to write about anything when you’re dead fwiw. Life is meaningless btw

“ The bizarre fact (at least in some cases) is that each of these games sold ridiculously well, at least here in the U.S. Why? It could be credited to the lack of games on Nintendo 64. Each game that comes out is damn near a gift from God and starving N64 owners have been all too eager to gobble”

“ An example: War Gods did very well on Nintendo 64. For PlayStation, however, it might as well have never released. Throw a cracker to a starving child and watch him devour it. A child with a full stomach, however, may need something a little less bland to excite his taste-buds.”

It’s really uncanny how much shit they were getting compared to now. Goldeneye had just come out. Lol.

I didn’t even know for the most part. I was happily ensconced in the N64’s library, which I guess was mostly OoT and Goldeneye

“ Some of the major players included: Rare, LucasArts, Acclaim, Electronic Arts, Virgin, and, of course, Midway (which then, incidentally, was still going by the name Williams). Many were skeptical, dubbing Nintendo's cream of the crop "The Nightmare Team," pointing an accusing finger at Midway in particular and its library of games”
