who here remembers 'harsh realm,' the lavish, big-budget sci-fi drama that fox commissioned in 1999 for $4 million per episode, only to cancel the whole project after episode 10?

yes, kind of. it was setting up an entire immersive storyline and world in which a military VR simulation of the US had been taken over by a dictator, and that dictator was developing ways to punch through into reality itself.
the existing episodes mostly involved the main character trying to orient himself within the VR world as he prepared to kill the dictator. but it never got far enough to progress the storyline very much.

rubicon had an interesting premise, but it might have started too slowly. as i recall, one of the opening scenes was a long tracking shot of a guy trudging through snow. for quite a while.
