Clash in Cockpit Prompts Distress Signal on Israel-Bound Flight

A clash in the cockpit of an airliner flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv Wednesday morning prompted Israel and Saudi Arabia to scramble fighter jets in fear of a hijacking, officials said.
Passengers described to Israeli news outlets a terrifying melee that left one crew member bleeding from a stab wound and ended with his attacker subdued by passengers. The plane landed safely at a civil-military airport in Tabuk, in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Ophir Spiegel, who said his mother Dalia was on the flight, told Israel’s public television station: “I just got a message through WhatsApp from a person I don’t know, but it said, ‘I’m with Dalia and she’s fine.’ So this is a calming message to the Spiegels at large — Mom is fine!” |

Report: Pilots in civilian clothes saved flydubai flight By Lazar Berman There was a second team of pilots in civilian clothes on the flydubai plane that made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, Channel 12 reports. They are the passengers who prevented one of the pilots from taking over the plane, according to the outlet.
A senior Israeli official tells the outlet that if the pilots had not been on the plane, the incident could have ended in another September 11, 2001, attack or 1976 Entebbe hostage incident.
The report is not confirmed.
