i'm sorry but anyone who believed Trump had any intention of doing that is EVEN DUMBER than anyone who believes that the Democrats have any intention of doing that. Trump has always been a greedy, selfish wealth hoarder with zero empathy for other people. i still don't understand how anyone fell for his shit, even in 2016. just like i don't understand how anyone falls for the Dems, who have never ever ever ever delivered in our lifetimes. Americans are so easily brainwashed.

right but that's just words. none of it made me think he actually had any intention of e.g. draining the swamp, because he's so obviously greedy and corrupt, or of not caving to the MIC, because he's so obviously weak-willed and weak-minded and every other president in our lifetime has been a little bitch for the MIC

I think Nick Fuentes is right about this that the only way to save the country is to reform the GOP. We have to transform it from within and it starts with MAGA losing seats in November. Something has to replace Trumpism. I don't think the left will ever change.

nah you need progressive policies to benefit the working class. the GOP doesn't support policies that help people. we need some new party that's anti-corruption and dedicated to serving everyday people rather than corporations and billionaires. the party can be agnostic on social issues like trans shit and just focus on things most people agree on, like ending foreign wars and spending money on things that benefit us directly, like universal health care

I agree with this. I just don't trust Democrats and I think Republicans are more quickly replaced. The GOP can be stripped down and built back up. Dems are like a thousand year Reich they're never changing. R can be flipped completely within ten years.

? i don't trust Democrats either - that's why i said we need a new party.

the GOP doesn't even purport to support the policies that would benefit working-class people most, so they're obviously the wrong vector for a pro-people movement... regardless of which Republicans get elected. the Democrats sometimes pretend to support those policies, but they never actually deliver and never will because they're slaves to their donors, so they're not the right vector either.

what policies do Republicans support that you think would help working-class people?

I'm not saying GOP would follow through but post Trump you just have to hope. Like you said they wrote a lot of checks with their mouth and did nothing. But they could actually do what they said. Democrats weren't even saying they were going to do shit. Republicans said it and didn't do it. We're on the same page that our current situation is Hell. Someone has to do what Trump said he was going to do in 2016. We just have to find that person.

I'm too dumb to list it all out but in general I think the best possible goal is to bring down the cost of housing, healthcare, and education and to grow working class wages. I don't know how that's done exactly but we need more jobs for people with out degrees that pay a lot. We need to bring down home values. I think that alone would change everything. And people shouldn't be in student or health debt forever. Probably make it more difficult for credit card companies to loan people money they can never get out from under. A lot of stuff in that direction. I think if we had high paying jobs that didn't require a ton of school and cheap housing and people weren't in debt I think the country would flourish. A lot of regular joes would save up and start businesses. I think there would be a lot more competition instead of a few conglomerates owning everything. We have to make wages more of a priority than stocks. I put a lot of money into stocks but I would be much happier to see my wage go up than wait around for AI to moon. I think rising wages are much better than lottery tickets. I think housing is way too expensive. They either need to build way more of it or get rid of a ton of people. Housing is ludicrous. When people have easy high paying jobs and security and aren't struggling, when school is cheap like imagine some dude working at Wendy's for $15/hr if he or she was super smart and could just go to Harvard or equivalent for cheap as chips or start a business, everything would change. You wouldn't have these do nothing billionaires rigging the system. Some kid would vibecode the next Fortune 500 company. A lot of cool shit would happen but loads of people are crippled by the cost of living and basic shit. Too much financial stress. In the golden era of American entrepreneurism the house that Jobs and Woz built the first Apple computer in was like 25k. Today 2-4 million easy. I mean, you just can't have kids in SV inventing the next big thing when you need to be mid career middle aged success story to just have what those kids had in terms of opportunity when they were just out of high school. Idk if you watch Rick Beato but he points out a high percentage of famous musicians today are nepo babies. That wasn't always the case. Used to be regular joes made it all the time. In the arts and business. America isn't America without the middle class.

"I don't know how that's done" - ahh that explains why you think the GOP could get it done. you just find Republicans less annoying than Democrats so you want to believe that the right Republicans would magically make our lives affordable, even though the GOP emphatically DOES NOT support higher wages or affordable housing or cheaper education or anything else you mentioned. the GOP openly, explicitly serves rich people and the Dems covertly do the same. we need a new party and we need Bernie-esque, progressive populist policies.

Lots of working class people tried trusting in the GOP like the Teamsters union and coal miners in WV who traditionally voted blue (ones who said Bernie was the only Dem who ever talked to them). It wasn't crazy. But yeah obviously some outside ideas would have to take root. The thing is GOP is way more likely to change.

it would have to change to the opposite of the policies that define it, though. what you're saying makes no sense.

we agree that the Dems won't change because the whole establishment is so corrupt and set in its ways. you believe that the Republicans, on the other hand, could get to a place where they're not corrupt. but what i'm saying is, even if they did, you'd be left with Republican policy, which is centered around making life easier for the ultra-wealthy and large corporations.

we need a new party

Harsh but fair. But you also need an apparatus. You have to build a structure. You need a machine to actually win. Prob have to transform a party from within and have to pick between the two.

In my view, he was being pursued with the justice system and should have understood that his safety required destroying that system or at very least scattering key components to the wind

I watched carefully to see if he was really trying to staff up with people from the outside. The RFK, Tulsi, and Kash picks (lmao...jesus fuck) gave me hope from an outsider perspective. The Rubio pick was, of course, concerning. As was his occasional bleating for Israel

I didn't fully appreciate how a little brush with near-death would cow and emasculate him. In retrospect, I should have

Trump 100% has locked down the border. Unfortunately for him, the methods behind the numbers are so toxic that in most races the MAGA candidates can’t even use it to their benefit. Americans like less illegals but they really don’t like videos of untrained ICE agents shooting people in the back.
