Jerome laughed, said something about Tabitha always eating on the clock. Next thing I knew, they were shouting in aisle 9, right in front of a terrified family comparing cereal prices.
I tried to step in, said, "Guys, let's calm down," but Tabitha swung at Jerome and missed. Guess who she hit instead? Yep, me. Right in the temple. I stumbled into the cereal display, sending boxes of Froot Loops flying everywhere.
Jerome just laughed, "Damn, Evan, you good?" as Tabitha muttered, "My bad," and walked off like nothing happened. I spent the next hour cleaning up while customers pretended not to stare.
Got home, looked at the cereal dust in my hair, and whispered, "Yes, friend. This is fine." |
