my main thought: this film was way overproduced/overdirected. they had a very compelling story that could have been made into a 180 film just by letting the story speak for itself, and it didn't need to be told in a mishmash order with 3 hours of constant intense feeling and drama. all this overproduction takes away from how amazing the story is itself, and it's just unnecessary. there's no reason a biopic or whatever you'd call this needs to be filmed like some memento.
that being said, it was a very exciting and engaging movie. the acting and story and raw material was all excellent. it had us on the edge of our seats for the entire 3 hours, and didn't feel too long. it was just too unnecessarily intense the whole time and needed to calm the fuck down at times. boring is good sometimes.
call me gay, but the nudity was trashy and unnecessary for a movie like this. no reason we needed to see that girl's tits out constantly. it all just makes the movie come off as degenerate jew hollywood garbage.
overall, compared to all the shitlib propaganda garbage that hollywood has been making in recent years, this movie has got to be as good as they can possibly do. it's nice to see a movie about scientists with (((white))) men heroes. if hollywood is educating the masses about this story and important piece of history, that's a good thing.
i see why it won all this acclaim given how ttt movies have been lately. but objectively, a movie like this shouldn't be best picture in any era where hollywood was producing good movies on the regular. reviews say this movie is one of the best of the 21st century; that's a sad testament to where hollywood is at now.
the movie did have undertones of hollywood jewish shitlibbery. it was obviously antiweapons and gave sympathy to the classic hollywood commie/shitlib/anti-mccarthyism schtick. but that was the reality of the movie and it told a fair story given the time.

It’s called cheap tricks. Something can keep you on the edge of your seat and be exciting but not actually be good cinema.

Oppenheimer is rated R for “some sexuality, nudity, and language,” but it’s a soft R—about as soft as the dick we don’t get to see.

tbh i thought it really sucked
but there's some good material in there. some rando will prolly come out with a fan-made AI cut of oppenheimer in the next five years that's an unmitigated 180

I thought it sucked mostly for the reasons you said at the top of your post. The great directors can tell a narrative story from beginning to end and don’t need to rely on timeline jumps and reveals to try to make a film interesting. Apparently Nolan isn’t good enough to do that so he had to rely on cheap conventions and it’s too bad because the movie was compelling in the first hour or so when largely stuck to Oppenheimer’s beginnings.

not sure why xo hates the last hour. i think oppenheimer's moral/conscience struggle and activism after the bomb is compelling, as are the political efforts by the warmongers to shut him down. the deep state conspiracy and jew-on-jew violence between oppenheimer and strauss are certainly compelling narratives that are interesting parts of the overall story, and nolan wasn't wrong to make a big deal about them. but no reason to tell the story out of order.

But if win the best picture Oscar didn’t it? For that reason it will always be remembered (even though it shouldn’t be because it’s otherwise a forgettable overly produced shit pure shit Nolan prestige film).

memento, inception and dunkirk are the only other 3 ive seen. inception was total garbage. i thought memento was 180 and edgy at the time but i was young and impressionable and probably was unfairly wowed by nolan's pseudointellectual bullshit. dunkirk had its issues but was compelling and unique and had me on the edge of my seat despite a movie with no talking. i'd say memento > dunkirk > oppenheimer > inception.

i like that nolan does intersting stuff and explores interesting topics but i find a lot of it mundane and unwatchable.
like the middle third of interstellar was just talking to the camera about space. his movies are all one hour too long.
if there is an expositionary screed on admin law for the audience that lasts one hour i will die.

Dear Retard,
Some books are meant to be read, and some are meant to be adapted into a movie. oppenheimer was never meant to be a cinematic event. just because you fell for the hype and sat through a dull movie don't sling lame insults at others.
My love always,
Barnaby

He was proud of his Southern upbringing as well as his religion, and insisted his name be pronounced in Virginia fashion as "straws" rather than with the usual German pronunciation

The narrative structure of the movie just doesn't work.
The first 2 hours is about creating a bomb to end WWII which could also end humanity.
The last hour is the nuances of the rules of procedure about an administrative process to remove a security clearance from someone who doesn't even really want a security client.

stfu w this weird admin law schtick. this is such a weird forcememe. it's a character study about the main character's conscience about creating a bomb, and the military-industrial complex / deep state trying to fuck him.
if u saw the last hour as some admin law screed, you're some weird aspie.

i wouldn't say boring as shit, but i'd say it wasn't well done because of the choppy gimmicky narration style. they could have done way more, i totally agree. for example, they could have presented the political scene of the late 40s/50s in a coherent manner that was useful.

"it's a character study about the main character's conscience about creating a bomb"
Is it? I'm not sure what scenes you think develop this plot point. From what i recall its mostly about the maneuverings against Oppenheimer and the related hearings.

i think a huge overarching theme is that he knew he was creating this monster that was going to both good and bad and he was torn by the morality of it as he was doing the thienth... and then when the monster was born, he continued to have a moral quandary about his role in creating this monster and felt the need to use his power to speak up.
