I did this in 2010-2011 and got good results. Lots of ways it can go wrong though. Your energy levels will be shit throughout the day when not on stims, especially if they affect your sleep.
I'd recommend keeping the deficit very mild (no less than 1800 net) and making the diet high in protein and low in carbs. Doesn't have to be keto but should at least be Atkinsy. Make sure not to use a stimulant that increases appetite or shuttles blood sugar to your muscles (nicotine with preworkout and low carb will leave you shakey and lead to low blood sugar panic eating).

When I was doing keto, I did a lot of eggs, bacon, fatty fish (tuna, salmon), etc. Occasionally with lentils or northern beans for some fiber.
Breakfast:
Two fried eggs, two strips of bacon
Lunch:
Two cans of albacore with mayonnaise and black pepper
100cal cup of plain greek yogurt with 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and 1 packet of splenda
Dinner:
Cubed chicken breast fried in olive oil with tuscan or provencal seasonings and grated parmesan

after years of keto being my primary means of weight control, i actually began intermittent fasting (the way, for example, dr. attia defined it, not the way most people use the term). every week, i do a water-only fast for at least 48 hours, but no more than 72 hours. when i break my fast, i break it with a moderately-sized, high protein meal. then, instead of eating keto the remainder of the time, i just try to keep carbs under ~100g.
i'm a former amateur bodybuilder. this really works as a dude in his 30s. and it doesn't negatively impact my lifting or energy levels
