Random thoughts:
it was pre cell so there was this cool live-in-the-moment vibe. You would wind up in some random car and off to some random party with people you may or may not know.
Field parties were big. My town was pretty urban but there was this random set of woods off an industrial road that you would go to with a keg. Get some pallets and start a big fire. We would stand around drinking and smoking. Typically a fight would break out.
Malls were magical. on a weekend just walk around aimlessly. always bumping in to people you know. Catch a movie and try to make out or feel up a girl. Spencers was a fun store.
Cars had CDs lying around everywhere. "ownership" of music meant something and signaled your style.
Cigarettes was a big line. Smokers were still edgy and cool. Non smokers looked like pussies. I think now you would look like a scumbag.
Style was also a big marker. the ghetto kids wore Tommy, Nautica, and the preppy dudes were american eagle and AF. cargo pants with a bowl in the side pocket.
Music was better. It was the last time you could say rock was mainstream (korn, limp, deftones, etc) but rap was already a mainstay at dances and parties.
Goldeneye was a big deal. Lot of time smoking pot and playing 4 player.
Football was brutal. we hit constantly with cheap ass helmets that guarantied concussions. of course, we just called it "getting your bell rung" back then and played on. Teams still ran option and ground and pound running game.
Girls wore perfume and smelled great.
Mostly I spent the day thinkging about Tiffany.
