“It’s just not possible, what are you going to do? Keep them from screens, take them out of public schools, take them to a good church, make sure they’re physically active and prolific readers?”
“Yeah, that’s the long and short of it.”

There is a lot you can do as a parent to optimize for success. The reality is - to do it right - you need resources and help.
A few examples... we lived in NYC until my first kid turned 2 and then got the hell out.
- Bought a farmhouse on a few acres in Connecticut in one of the best school districts in the state.
- We grow a ton of our own organic fruits and vegetables. The kids are extremely active in helping plant stuff and tend to our garden. In the warmer months they basically live outside.
- My wife is a SAHM and we're with our kids 24/7 for the first 2 years of their lives. When we're not with them we have a nanny who has been with all of them since they were infants. She usually comes two days a week.
- They see their grandparents (3 out of 4) on a weekly basis and sometimes more frequently.
- We only put our kids in daycare when they turn 2, and only for 3 hours in the morning. Despite these great schools, we send them to Catholic school.
- Playdates with friends are a regular thing and, at their age, we're there for the whole time, hanging with their friends' parents while the kids do their thing. No sleepovers - ever.
- They're in baseball, soccer, tae kwon do/KidStrong.
- Wife and I basically have no lives outside of spending time with them, and mostly outdoors, or playing with toys and reading books. - We watch movies and cartoons a moderate amount with them but it's all stuff we monitor closely (e.g. no tablets, no YouTube).
- We work hard to cultivate a joy in reading and writing. Same for art and music.
You have no idea how much time, effort, sacrifice and money this takes. I make a lot of money and sometimes I feel like it's barely enough. We're lucky to have family who help a lot and afford all of the above but even so, I can't imagine most people, certainly millenials, are willing to commit to actually putting their kids' interests ahead of their own.

Lol tyft
Also your kids grandparents just randomly live within an easy drive of your random rural farmhouse in Connecticut?
