We waited until our kids were 2 to send them to day care and that had its own drawbacks (e.g. dropping that on them at the developmental stage where their separation anxiety peaks). In a rational world there would be essentially all day mom groups with shitloads of “help” in the form of essentially day care teachers that lead a bunch of activities and give the moms longer breaks. And then those places would transition to half day and then full day day care as the kids get old enough to make use of actual instruction by trained educators.

Also maybe the correlation between daycare and lower IQ is caused by the huge amounts of ghetto kids in free/shitty gov daycare programs. In Cali if you are poor you get free daycare vouchers. Im sure the teachers/kids there are probably below average IQ.

I thought this was an interesting study, but was much less excited when I saw that the study groups were anything but random.

The Bologna, Italy daycare centers give priority to 1) children with disabilities, 2) children in families with social workers, 3) single-parent households, etc.

They also have an income limit for admission to the programs.

Look at Figures 3, 4 (pages 33, 34) that show higher income families are typically "not offered admission" and "less likely to attend". Versus lower income families "offered admission" and "more likely to attend".
