They had posted a mug shot of a criminal homeless dude who had stabbed someone at the memorial of two woman who were stabbed (one to death) by another criminal homeless dude.
He was hanging out in a subway station a few days after the incident and I had just gotten on the train. He just didn't look right - he was also standing equidistant to three exits, just waiting - obviously the optimal method of escape if he needed.
I told the people working at the transit station about what I saw and they basically said "we're on break, what do you want us to do about it?" - so I boarded the train and then called the police and told them what I saw, where he was etc.
They caught him in the transit system a few days later. |

* I was driving over the Pulaski Skyway very late one night and there were massive flames shooting up from below - some warehouse had caught fire. Roads were empty and the fire was clearly out of control, so I didn't know if it had been called in so I called 911. They were like, lol, we know loser
* Also on a highway, this one with barriers on both sides, there was a stray dog running around in the shoulder between the road and barricade. Called police to send animal control before someone hit it.
* On a motorboat in large, brackish river and the engine died. I didn't have a phone, but I hopped on CB channel 9. Some dude in a fishing boat towed me back to the dock.
* car was stolen; called police and filed a police report. Car was found "abandoned" a few days later. It had clearly been chopped for parts to repair another car with of the same make/model/color that had been in an accident. |

Got a knock on the door like 10 minutes later and it was the police saying some "transients were digging through the garbage cans but they ran off when they pulled out." They didn't think they made it to the ladder - it was probably just them bashing the garbage cans against the house.
Honestly, living in California you could call the cops probably 5x a week (and I probably should have). If you walk a couple miles you can find someone passed out on the sidewalk looking half dead or shooting up heroin next to a preschool. |
