“will you go out with me” were basically the 6 magic words to make it official with a girl in junior high. anyone else have this same experience?

Not generally. People hung out in groups and then people would eventually sort of announce they were a couple.

lol so you know what I mean? the phrasing of it is what I find funny, considering that you weren’t really “going out” anywhere at that age

yeah, this stuff started happening in 6th grade. i remember it was actually common for the girls to ask the boys in a majority of the cases.

Girl I liked had her friend ask me out for her at the end of a middle school dance (i did the hands resting on the 12 year old ass move during our slow dances). I said yes, immediately felt weird, and avoided talking to my "gf" for the rest of the year.

Haha yeah the “middle person” ask-outs usually ended that way

The whole thing was highly effective at selectIng aspies out of the dating pool.

I remember for 5th and 6th grade, any time someone told me “[girl] likes you, ask her out! I would think “ask her out? But where are we supposed to go???? It’s not like I have a car to get to the movie theater...” and invariably do nothing.

By the time a Chad-in-training in my class took pity on me and explained what it actually meant, it was 7th grade and I’d tanked my chances with all the girls who liked me lmao

lol. in 6th grade people told me a girl liked me, and although I had never talked to her before i mustered you the courage to go up to her locker and say “hey Christie, will you go out with me?” after a few painfully awkward lunches that week where i probably said all of 5 words to her, we broke up—i.e., her friends told me she didn’t want to “go out with” me anymore

hilarious thinking back on all of that

I once went out with a girl for one period. I asked her out and she said yes, then she talked to her friends and broke up with me in the hallway next break.

That was the second shortest "going out" I had. I also went out with a girl for about three songs at a dance. She dumped me too.
