i found an article about my great-grandmother when she was a little kid (it was about how she fell through ice and nearly drowned while skating but her life was saved by neighborhood boys, thank God)

i also found out that my great x2 grandfather committed suicide by gas just weeks before the end of wwii. he was my only ancestor who immigrated from germany and i wonder if his germanness had anything to do with it. my great-grandfather, 14 at the time, was the person who found him. later in his life, my great-grandfather was incarcerated for being an alcoholic which is why my grandmother grew up with nuns.
