i remember a partner scolding me from doing that.

For short one paragraph emails I have been doing
[Name], blah blah blah. Thanks - [Name]
(no spaces between the salutation and signature like a letter) for years. I now notice lots of people in my firm adopting it.
When I was a jr. associate I stole "Regards" sign off from my mentor's email but quickly ditched that.
