Let's say landlord decided to increase price for something you know its not worth said price. You've been with landlord for 4 years and things have worked out very well, but you're shocked over this charge.

Do you fight it or just keep your mouth shut?

in this market? You're insane not to, you should leave for a better deal if they don't budge.

But finding a better deal will come with other shit. I've been looking for a while and there are some deals out there, all of them with their pros and cons, and more cons than pros.

Depends on the situation to be honest - Do you have a good deal? Are you going to stay for a long time? Have increases been deferred?

The deal is good, but he took advantage of the lockdown to charge something that normally would not be charged (not going into detail, too long a story).

We normally got along very well but this made me MAF. Fuck being nice and taking shit. Lots of people operate like this, but I can't do it.

Oh, that's another landlord, but my company paid for it. We rented a small office for about 4 months and we brought our own computers and shit.

The "cleaning fee" after we left was about $700 dollars. And this would include some fat cleaning lady vaccumming and dusting the desks, there was NOTHING else, for which she probably earned $20/hr and did it in 3 hours, so $60. They earned $640 for "cleaning" an already clean office.

ask to see the itemized bill claiming you feel its "excessively high for the sq feet rented", a fair request, they will have to show you that $700 bill.

If any of it seems shady af, discuss it and if no agreement can be reached, call the landlord and tenant ombudsman or whatever, and start a claim against them

LOL at the "relationship" . You're not dating this very likely old, miserly BOOMER. You're paying him for a place to live.

If you think your deal is below market, you suck it up and pay. If you could find a comparable place elsewhere for similar or less, just tell him to fuck off. He'll either sue you for $100 (unlikely) or end the lease if he thinks he can get someone in for more $.

Right, but you have to think about emergencies and other situations. Getting along well with your landlord is always a good thing.

Great flame. It's a business relationship. He's not your friend. He's not driving you to the hospital. He should fix things bc that's what the lease requires not because of the "relationship"

He is actually my friend. I have no IRL friends, just acquaintances, so he's the closest I'd have to a "friend".

Had a gay boomer ll once who lived nearby and when he was around he insisted that he be introduced as my "friend", not my ll. Would bring presents from his trips, etc.

Then when moving out, he flipped shit over some minor damage and was threatening to sue. lol.

They are not your friends, you have no relationship, its all $$$

ll and tenant is a contractual agreement and not a friendship in any way, shape, or form, do not be lulled into thinking otherwise. Get everything in writing and take pictures/video of place during initial walk through, but smile while you are doing it, if they ask why just say its something you always do, you can amend walkthrough up to a week after you move in, make sure everyone signs the changes, yw
