My parents came her as non-white immigrants and they had to work their asses off. The only vacation I took during my childhood was to Disneyland (we stayed with another immigrant family in Orlando, didn't even have the money to pay for a hotel). My parents had maybe 5 different cars from my birth until now (I'm 38). As I said below they bought a house as near-senior citizens.

to crib from peter schiff - the notion that everything is getting more expensive because our economy is booming is complete horseshit. when the economy is growing things get CHEAPER because we are producing more and greater productivity leads to higher purchasing power. our moribund economy in REAL TERMS has not grown AT ALL since the late 90's when we started offshoring everything

To be fair, that was a decade ago. I was making biglaw junior associate money and my wife was working as well. Plenty of money to buy a home.

The value of my home has actually doubled in that decade.

I guess us late millennials are basically like mini-boomers.

I grew up in the 90s and my parents are immigrants. They came here with nothing but they invested wisely in a house in a shitty black/Hispanic area in the early 2000s. The area gentrified and now it's worth 2 mil.

i don't doubt your experience, but it's *FAR* different than the average. most blue collar families in america have been able to buy a house easily for the past hundred years, up until recently. your parents experience of saving for 30 years is far outside of the norm. if you've lived here since the 90s you should know this, and know that your story is an extreme outlier.
