I was watching the Sopranos and it hit me how substantially a lot of things have declined even since the late 90s when the World War II generation was still on the scene. The Boomers were totally inadequate to the task of maintaining the institutions big and small that their forebears built. Not just large organizations but innumerable local groups like civic clubs, churches and even families. Without the Greatest Gen keeping them going, so many of them were on borrowed time.
