Mother in law mad I fed dog from "human" dish. Who's right here?

My wife's family doesn't love dogs. They say they're messy. This morning, I got up with the kids and when I went to feed the dog, I saw we'd forgotten her bowl. No problem, I grabbed a big tupperware bowl from the cabinet, fed her in that, and went on with my morning. Mother in law came down later, asked why the bowl was on the floor, and flipped out when my son told her. I said "what's the big deal--you marinate raw chicken and pork in the tupperware then wash it out and use it again. It's fine." She said it's different. She threw the tupperware in the trash and left.
Who's right here? Wife isn't picking sides. She just says I shouldn't have done that, but she doesn't have a better solution. It's going to be an awkward next 4 days. |

It's not about being "comfortable" with dog drool. They put raw meat and stuff in the tupperware. That's not worse/dirtier than dog drool. Either way, you wash it before you use it again. |

Interesting hypo, JM. Typically someone raised in a non-dog-family would not get with a dog person. I tried dating girls with dogs and it never worked. I was always too annoyed by something or other the dog did. Or she was way too into bringing the dog everywhere etc. And the smell in the house was always there. |

It's OK to let raw chicken soak in there, then wash it and use it for leftovers the next day...but it's not OK for a dog (whose mouth is way cleaner than a human's mouth) to eat out of it? It's not like I put it back without washing it. It would have gone through the dishwasher before anyone used it again.
Wife is much more "American" than her parents. She always wanted a dog growing up but they wouldn't get her one. She's totally a dog person anyway. |
