In middle school I used to get beaten up a lot

I remember onetime they made me stay after and do 100 yds of bear crawls, then 100 yds of air raids back, then, when I got back the coach asked if I “had learned my lesson” and I said “what?” And then he made me do up downs until I vomited. Also, I would wear a dress shirt and tie to school and the kids would make fun of me for that. We would have lunch period and I never went to lunch. I just went to the library. Librarian always asked me if I had a pass, and I always said no, I’m at lunch. She was cool though and let it slide. Went to lunch onetime and some kid literally poured a soda all over my pants and started chanting “he wet his pants! He wet his pants.” When I’d get home from school many times I would go and grab a baseball bat from the garage and go and pace our behind the neighborhood where, over time, I wore a pretty deep track in the ground as I walked back and forth and sorted it all out. |

On a handful of occasions kids would come and ask me what I was doing, but they’d never come too near. I did hit myself in the head or back or whatever with the bat from time to time. It got so beaten up from being dropped or thundered into the ground that the plastic cap at the end of it came out and then the aluminum cracked and it was really sharp. By that time I started scratching/cutting myself as well as bruising myself. |

Oddly enough I wound up down at the Assistant Principal’s office a lot more after I wore the tie. Once I was even sent to the Principal’s office and that was really scary because it was like an elevated disciplinary matter. I’m pretty sure my file at school was quite thick. I went to the principal’s office almost every day. Mostly the AP. They all knew me by my first name. |
