there are lots of things you can do with a good rice cooker. popular now are "one pot meals" where you throw in proteins and vegetables with rice at the same time - think japanese oyakodon. or my wife will make sticky rice, which is not worth the effort or time the traditional way with a thai steamer huad basket. a proper rice cooker can make congee, sushi rice for making...sushi, etc. etc. if you want to do some of these things, then one of the better asian brands is more suited, but if you just need some fluffy white rice every now and then, just get a < $100 one.

we actually mostly make brown rice so it's healthier. we want fluffy brown rice. we're doing the rice cooker today. we'll see how it is.

if you eat brown rice, the < $100 ones should be able to do that fine. gooks have that fancy purple rice which is similar to brown rice. just put the cooker in the right mode and add advised water amount. the fancy asian rice cookers also have modes for sushi, sticky, congee, etc. and are much better at it than the cheaper ones.

in korea, japan, even thailand, only the high iq people still read chinese. korean hangul was made for the peasant masses. in mainland china, a similar thing happened where they had to make chinese easier to read and write for the dumb chinks, so the simplified version of chinese was made by the ccp. in taiwan, singapore, hk, the traditional version of chinese is still used today.
