my main concern is safety -- i want to be able to bentsch alone, with the pins on. want something where it's easy to get the safety pins on and off and move them around.
want something stable (not chink garbage) but i'm not lifting heavy so i don't need anything super fancy.

I bought a Rep 6-post rack (PR-5000) and Ares cable attachment last year, and I love it. Space is at a premium in my basement, so the combined setup is perfect for me.
I didn’t think I would use the cable attachment that much, but I bought it anyways because I thought my wife would like it. I use it all the time, and it is as smooth as any cable system I have used. At the time I bought all of this, no one else was offering anything close to the PR-5000 + Ares cable system.
Carrying all of this shit to my basement was brutal on my knees and assembly was a huge pain in the ass. If this is your first time putting something like this together, plan on assembly taking two full days, at a minimum. Also, you really want a 1/2 inch battery powered impact driver, 36mm impact socket, a short extension and flex joint. You can use a large crescent wrench to hold the nuts in place while using the impact driver.

https://repfitness.com/products/ares-2-0-builder
There are enough improvements in the Ares v2 that it probably is worth the wait.

Rep offers assembly service via a third party. If it is less than $1k, you should probably go with third party assembly based on your retarded questions.
Don’t let any of the his dissuade you from the Rep rack and Ares attachment. It is awesome.
To answer your questions, this is my impact:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-18V-LXT-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-4-Speed-1-2-in-Sq-Drive-Impact-Wrench-w-Friction-Ring-Anvil-Tool-Only-XWT14Z/313894331
Milwaukee and Dewalt make comparable drivers. The main elements to look for are brushless, variable speed, pro quality, and 1/2 inch size. Technically you are looking for an impact wrench, not driver. Keep that in mind when shopping.
With that figured out, I assume you can navigate the impact socket, extension, and flex joint. Sunscreen was a great value for impact sockets, but they have crept up in price. I don’t know if there is a better deal out there at present.
The impact wrench I linked to above can remove lug nuts from cars (it may struggle with legit truck wheels). If there is any chance you will use it to work on your car, get the Sunex metric impact socket set.
https://www.amazon.com/Sunex-2569-Master-Impact-43Piece/dp/B00MPQ88RY/
That set doesn’t include a 36mm socket. So you will need to buy both the socket and set separately.

The advantage of the smaller one is that it's smaller, leaving you with more room in your gym for gay sex.
The bigger one is bigger so you have more room inside the cage for doing exercises.
That's all there is to it, kike.

Gym equipment isn't cheap, but will last a lifetime. Don't cheap out by buying crap from Amazon or building one out of 2x4s & nails from Home Depot.
A real rack is going to cost four figures. The only question is the magnitude of that first digit.
If you want cables, expect another $1-2k in addition to the cost of the rack. Weight stacks will add another $1k.
If you're cost-conscious, look for used stuff - but it may take a long time for real equipment to show up on the secondary market.

Looks like Rogue offers the only alternative to the Ares at present, which wasn’t available when I bought my rack.
I think I posted a link above to a great comparison of the two systems.
This is the comparison:

Yeah, depending on where you situate your rack, it can be kind of cramped to use one or the other. It can also be nice not to have to completely break down whatever you have set up in the rack in order to use the cable machine. And if your wife would use it at the same time, it can be nice having separate things.
It's not a big deal either way.

gotcha.
i'm not gonna ever max out a plate stack.
one advantage of a plate loading one is that it's lighter and easy to move the entire rack, right? seems like it'd be impossible to every move the rack if it's plate stack.
also its easier to move weights up and down with a pin versus having to put plates on.

I've had an Elite FTS rack since 2003 and love it. I got the 2" frame since it was shorter & fit in my parents' basement (3" was a bit too tall), and opted for one with 1" spacing for bench with holes at top & bottom for bands. A decent rack will last a lifetime, and you don't lift heavy enough for it to really matter what you get. All the options are geared towards powerlifting and specialty stuff you won't use. Just find something basic from a quality brand you like.
Rogue's a decent brand, but I only have a reverse hyper from them. Their racks look comparable to Elite FTS, though.
If you want anything with cables, do not get home gym - go commercial only. I went with a Powerbody plate-loaded crossover, but I'm able to accommodate a 100" ceiling clearance and 12' width in my current house. Plate-loaded will save space & cost if you already have plates, and they're much easier to move.
Keep in mind how the equipment's shipped (i.e., the physical size of the parts), as you need to be able to physically move the pieces from the driveway to your basement. Not everything is made for transporting up & down stairs in a house.

Good poast. HIGHLY recommend one with bench hole spacing (sometimes called Westside holes) -- enormous quality of life difference especially if you're benching without somebody to give you a lift off.
Rogue has more entry level options than elite FTS, and for what OP is looking at, I think they make better choices. If he were doing more weight, I'd rec one of elite FTS' entry models.
For cables, I think plate loaded is great, and I don't think there's much unique value in crossovers so I think OP can save space.

Oh, yeah - completely agree.
We just need to convince him to not buy garbage cable systems. Maybe they've improved in recent years, but I've had such bad experience with home-quality cables that I will only buy commercial quality.
I don't personally like extra stuff in my racks, but OP seems like a combo rack/cable system might work for him.
Then again, most stuff like this is never actually used by the buyer, but hey, maybe he'll be an exception.

The Rep cable attachment really is spectacular. Absolutely buttery smooth.
If someone has unlimited space, sure go with multiple pieces of equipment, but that would be very low on my list of priorities after using the Ares for a couple months.
EDIT: cables are especially great for those of us with lower ceilings, which OP mentioned elsewhere is an issue.

I have a squat suit from Titan, but I'm pretty sure that's a different company.
This other Titan stuff looks pretty basic, which is all you need. Nothing's made in the US nowadays (the few things that are tend to not be high quality), so don't worry about that. Brand & reputation are more important... and I just don't know this Titan brand myself.
Looking at their site:
Basic Rack: $600
Plate Attachment: $400
Pins: $100ish
Hooks: $100ish
Lat Attachment: $400
Add in shipping and you're around $2k. That's probably half of the type of rack I'd recommend, but should suffice for your needs.
You'll still need a bench. Adjustables there look to be $300-500 (don't get a curvy support beam bench).

It looks really flimsy to me. I wouldn't want to use it.
The Wal-Mart price-level stuff isn't going to hold up well.
It's kind of like you're looking to buy a new car for under $10k -- it's just not realistic, even if there's something out there at that price point.

Is space at a premium?
If yes, a combined system from Rogue or Rep is clearly the correct answer.
If no, it depends on what is important to you. You claim to have experience lifting. If that’s the case, watch some reviews, pay attention to how it is used and how that relates to what it important to you, and make a decision.

annoying for the safeties when benching, right? i assume for the j-hooks it doesnt matter so much if they're a little low.
is it safe to bench outside the cage with the j-hooks on the outside, and using the safety arms -- rather than the safety pins -- as safeties?
if so, then u have two options if the height isnt perfect, right?

I don’t get your preoccupation with this topic. Regardless of the precautions you take, you shouldn’t be maxing out big numbers in a single rep without someone assisting. Otherwise, what is preventing you from dumping the weight?
To answer your question, if you use arms off the front, you need to anchor the rack to the floor if it doesn’t have a cable system with its own weight. If you install a cable system with its own stack(s) of weight, you can use arms without anchoring your rack.
Are your questions flame?

For both. Especially without a spotter for liftoff, it's helpful to have your unrack be as short as possible without having to come out of your arch.
Yes.
The point of Westside holes is so the height can be close to perfect. And changing whether you bench on the inside or outside of the cage changes nothing about the height. I don't get your question.

i get making the liftoff as easy as possible. but for the safety protecting your neck, i'm more concerned.
what i'm saying is the inside safeties and the outside spotter arms might not be at the exact same height even if using the the same pins. so you might be able to have a more perfect fit using one or the other
westside holes are 1". standard non-westside seems to be 2". this REP one is 3". some of the chink ones online are almost 4" (probably something in cm)
all benches are different heights right?
