This was a few years ago as part of the training they make you do when becoming an adjunct prof; not technically a DEI-named event, per se.
All the incoming instructors are given a slip of paper describing a person (I was a hispanic single mother who used to teach elementary school but had to quit because of post-partum alcoholism), and the room was split into two teams, each of which took turns picking 5 ppl apiece to put on two spacecrafts that would save these ppl from the apocalypse and leave them to repopulate the species.
Because I apparently lack a strong self-preservation instinct, I pointed out that we should pick 4 young women and 1 man -- in my defense, I figured that women were higher on the intersectionality hierarchy than men, and I also thought it would be seen as okay to be advocating for my own character -- and it was made immediately clear that this whole mode of thought (i.e., rational thinking) was *NOT* appreciated.
We ended up picking a MTF transperson, a menopausal woman in her 50s, and 2 dudes selected for their skills, one of whom was LGBT (but I guess will have to get over that shit, no?). A single early-20s woman, who ended up on board by the lucky chance that she was indigenous and politically active (and "we'll need that" in space), and who I guess will be mitochondrial Eve for the whole species.
As I was watching this process unfold -- and I swear to God it was being taken seriously by the participants who ended up being the decisionmakers (although, obviously, every white male / STEM person knew to shut tf up and nod along) -- I remember thinking I needed to make a thread about it.
