In terms of expectations the Trump campaign played this about as badly as they could’ve. And last week there was new reporting effectively proving that he lied with his excuse for why he *changed his mind* (lol) about Trump being America’s Hitler ie that Trump won him over during Trump’s POtUS term. That’s before you get to the fact that he’s the most inexperienced VP pick maybe ever but certainly since the Civil War and he’s running with the oldest guy to ever be nominated by a major party for POTUS. There is a very high risk that he ends the night looking like a transparent phony who is trying to use Trump and MAGA for his own purposes and who would be ill-prepared if Trump were dead or incapacitated. I don’t think it’s likely that Walz has the debate chops to tag him with all that, but I think it’s very likely that Walz won’t have to because the moderators will do it for him and Vance will get triggered and say something bitchy in response. And then the image of the debate will be doughy, red faced Vance shouting with both moderators staring back at him with “you made my pussy dry” faces and Walz standing there bemused and content that he can win by doing nothing. He won't be baited and he will give around B+ Pro-Trump anti-Harris policy summaries, which is better than all 3 other candidates are capable of and Walz has no answer for. He may do great, but he will also be forced to give a bunch of lame answers to a bunch of very biased questions for at least a third and could be as much as 2/3rds of the debate. See also, Buttigieg getting absolutely bodied by the fucking Klobb repeatedly in debates in 2020. You’re right that Vance is often very strong on cable news and I am sure he will be better than Trump was. But he’s playing an away game where the other teams grounds crew put thumb tacks all along the visitors sideline and left two hungry rattlesnakes in the visitors locker room. Trump's problem is that he just isn't articulate and can't make any points with specific details. It makes him lose credibility even when he's completely correct. I remember him trying to explain why critical race theory is a problem during the 2020 debates...it was a complete shitshow and the only people who would even understand what he was *trying* to say are those already 100% in agreement with him. It has only gotten much worse since 2020. He has very little capacity to explain an issue to a persuadable voter. |
