Date: March 8th, 2026 4:44 PM Author: Stirring university We joke about it because it's funny and gamer camaraderie is high (although in a troubling trend I have noticed morale falling and needless counter-revolutionary gamer infighting in certain cadres) but in all seriousness in takes years and decades and countless hours of work, whether it be in community management, content curation, mod development, etc just to put together a culture in the wider one that you can immerse yourself in and feel that your interests are being promoted and worked on The Games themselves, the IPs, these things are not so serious themselves but the shared cultural touchstones that they represent as well as all sorts of vaguely libertarian facets of the "bones" of the community like "free use" software, transparent or open source development, intensive collaboration between hobbyists, lionization of the passion for artistic creation, and a celebration of the arts and culture from all periods and eras in a multimedia format, these things are very important pillars holding up and promoting all sorts of positive things in the wider cultural and social arenas and the relentless assault on the culture and its attendant communities from enemies and scoundrels from without and within have had lasting and deleterious effects on the social organism as a whole |
