why didn't iran close the strait and bomb arab facilities years ago? if all the gaming shows that it puts america in an unwinnable position, why have they been sitting on such a strong move? their inaction implies it isn't as strong as it appears.

the us hasnt committed to the war yet struck first. if iran had initated this offensively there would have be more support to stop them.

also they couldn't know how vigorously the us would oppose/attack them. we have the power to stop them if we had the will to use it. that's part of why this is such a disaster: we've proven we're a paper tiger, so we can now expect iran to be more aggressive going forward.

one theory i have is that they thought it was inevitable we would attack them, so rather than provoke us they would take that time to build up and get ready and make their position even stronger. and as you note, they look a lot better internationally when we start it.

of course, that's why they keep trying to make nukes. the only reason we arent in ukraine right now is because going toe to toe with russia might start a nuclear war. as soon as they get nukes we're going to be was less likely to bully them.

as far as "provoke", thats a matter of opinion i guess. what we see as provoking they see as legitimate. but yeah, they've been "complying" with nuclear inspectors and shit so they can build up but limiting the risk of the hammer dropping. we don't let them inspect our facilities of course. its not like they would do that unless they were coerced. that coercision is a big factor in why they want to get strong enough to resist it.

perhaps, Iran has always underpriced/undervalued its true upper limit value in setting the price of oil to their benefit-- they won't make that mistake ever gain

oil, gas, helium-- whoever rules the Persian Gulf rules world markets

they would have antagonized the entire rest of the world by doing that and everyone would have raped them by any and every means possible

but they're unrapeable, that's the whole thing. they could take complete control over the region at any moment and nothing short of a massive allied invasion could stop it. they could have been making billions in tolls this whole time.

every other country would economically and politically freeze them out and they'd be brutally victimized in whatever resolution eventually happened. their own people would hate them and maybe actually "rise up" against them to some degree

to be clear, iran's leadership is not even actually "choosing" to escalate in the way that they're doing now. they have no real choice. jews will continue to force the US to attack them until they are destroyed. iran's only choice is to continue to proportionately escalate in order to deter further US military aggression. they cannot just "make peace" because israel and the US will just come back later and do the same thing after they regroup. they are FORCED to take this conflict to its conclusion (either the US backs off, or iran is destroyed)
