THAT BEING SAID, my first job beyond college was beyond shitty and stressful (completely different field). My first job at my current company was beyond shitty and stressful. So, I don't mind this one bit at all

Yes. It is all about getting your foot in the door. Friends of friends, etc. I was lucky enough to apply blindly and get interview request for an entry level position. Keep in mind i had no specific skillset coming in. Everything I use i learned on the job.
If the work at home part appeals to you, look into sales or consulting. I don't work in either, but those two fields you rarely need to step foot in the office
