forget the impossibility of *getting* to these faraway places. once there, even with $100M no-gravity rooms, our bodies just rot painfully. Our eyeballs fail. Absolutely nothing in our body works anywhere but here, and it would take another span of all-human-history to evolve sufficiently

CR. Mars is shit. The pressure is too low and it's colder than fucking Antarctica plus there's no magnetic field from the solar wind.

This is why I am a big supporter of colonizing the upper atmosphere of Venus because it is the only place in the solar system outside Earth that does not have these problems. There is a big swathe of the Venusian atmosphere that is basically like California on a spring day except with some sulfur in the air.

Lack of air pressure is a huge, expensive problem to deal with, far worse than even temps or radiation.

ikr. Crazy how perfect it is, really. Plus Venus's day is about half of its year so you can just let the colony drift in the clouds and have constant sunlight.

Other fun Venus facts: Venus has an almost perfectly circular orbit with almost no axial tilt, and it rotates "backwards" relative to the other planets.

Weird place.

hadnt heard that about venus. hope its true.

gravity seems to be the biggest issue. i watched some doc about the autist who spent a year on the ISS and his body is just fucked. Now imagine a child growing up. blood circulation, muscle development, sight and hearing, sweating, etc. Its all fucked

Yes, both the Soviets and the US did a lot of Venus probe missions. The Soviets were actually more interested in Venus than the Moon and studied the atmosphere extensively. Finding a nearly Earth-identical atmosphere on our closest planetary neighbor was a pretty big deal!

NASA wanted to do a Venus manned mission - a flyby, of course - after Apollo but Nixon axed it.

We should crash Mercury and a bunch of other shitlib moons into Venus to increase its gravity so the atmosphere doesn't hemorrhage Hydrogen. Then we can boost it into Earths orbit and terraform it, round up all the libs and nonwhites and send them to this new shadow earth.

I appreciate your outside-the-box thinking. I do. You're an innovator. But it seems a needlessly complicated solution to the libs-and-nonwhites problem. We have bullets and lengths of rope at our disposal.

Not flame, the Hydrogen 'problem' is very delicate. If the Earth had less surface gravity, we would have a desert planet with a runaway greenhouse effect like Venus due to hydrogen leakage. If the Earth had more surface gravity, we would have a SMOTHERBOXXX atmosphere and end up crushed under the extreme pressure of all the CO2 and water vapour, like a gas giant.

What method do you prefer? Tidally locking the Earth so all the oceans evaporate and precipitate on the dark side of the Earth?
