As infections in the U.S. are rising sharply, the death rate has dropped.
After a minor late-spring lull, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States is again on the rise. States like Arizona, Florida and Texas are seeing some of their highest numbers to date, and as the nation hurtles deeper into summer, the surge shows few signs of stopping.
Yet the virus appears to be killing fewer of the people it infects — a seemingly counterintuitive trend that might not last, experts said.
ADVERTISEMENT
In April and May, Covid-19 led to as many as 3,000 deaths per day and claimed the lives of roughly 7 to 8 percent of Americans known to have been infected. Now, even though cases are rising in the majority of states, some of which are hitting single-day records, the number of daily deaths is closer to 600, and the death rate is less than 5 percent.
Because death reports can lag diagnoses by weeks, the current rise in coronavirus cases could portend increases in mortality in the days to come. However, there are also a few factors that can help explain the apparent drop.
One is increased diagnostic testing, which has identified many more infected individuals with mild or no symptoms. That means those who die with Covid-19 form a smaller overall proportion of cases, said Caitlin Rivers, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security
And with more tests available, infections are often identified earlier, “which allows us to intervene earlier,” said Saskia Popescu, a hospital epidemiologist and infectious disease expert in Arizona.

Health experts also noted that treatments had improved, and that the virus is now infecting more young people, who are less likely to die of Covid-19.

Actually, the spike began on June 26th. So, less than 2 weeks ago.
Moreover, it's not even 3:30 and we are already at almost 600 dead today, which is tracking to be the first day over 1,000 deaths since June 9th.
Also, again, it's not even 3:30 and Arizona is at 117 dead for the day. That is the highest daily death rate in Arizona by over 50% since Covid was discovered.
Florida is at 63 dead so far today. If it continues at that pace for today, it will also be Florida's deadliest day if it goes up 20 more.
Texas has released no numbers so far today, but yesterday was Texas' deadliest Covid day.
So, would you like me to feed you your cricket or would you prefer me to shove it up your ass?!

It did grow exponentially. But still the numbers were spiking well before then.

In terms of predicting deaths the spike started in June.
We should have seen a rise in deaths by now.
Also remember because it takes a while to get test results it's not 2 weeks anymore.
It's more like 10 days.

This is bull shit.
Florida- cases (peaks, that then receded):
June 2- 617 cases
June 3- 1317
June 13- 2581
June 20- 4049
June 27- 9585
July 4- 11,458
Their deaths peaked in late April with 83 in a day. Since then, they've bounced around between single digits and capping at 70. With no correlation to the steady increase that started June 2.
Texas was the same, with an upward climb in cases starting June 1 (with a few downward spike days). With deaths floating in between single digits and about 50.

It only follows logically that 2 weeks out we will see increased deaths.
And again, we are at 63 already today in FL. 5 more hours for reporting. Likely will be the highest death day, which follows what happened in Texas yesterday and what happened in Arizona already today.
Here's your cricket, reptile. Also, NOTRE DAME FUCKING SUCKS.

If the total cases new cases hit a high watermark on June 4, doubled June 13th, doubled June 20th, why is the 7 day daily average for deaths the same as as it was back in April? The daily death charts look the exact same as they have since April and we're a month past when the increase started.
Oh man, you got me by saying the college football team I root for is bad.

Well, you're fucking wrong.
The 7 day average death rate in Florida through today so far is the 2nd highest it has been since the outbreak. The only average rate that has been higher was back in the 1st week of May.
Moreover, it is only going to go higher, not lower.

Oh... so we should based this on your predictive abilities?
The 7 day average is at 48. It ran between 45 and 51 for the entire period from April 17-May 12.
From April 3-April 30, the 7 day new cases numbers ran from about 580-1100.
That 1100 peak was matched on June 8 with steady inrcease every day. That was a month ago and the death numbers have barely increased. Look at the NY charts and see what happens in a month when cases start rising.

Bro, the average has been in the 30s until THIS WEEK since the 2nd week of May. That's a FACT. This week it is at 50.
More importantly, to show how you don't know what the fuck you are talking about is that the hospitalization rate started spiking up on July 1st and the trend line is showing increased spiking. In fact, 3 of the last 7 days showed daily hospitalizations in the 300s. Prior to that, NO DAY HAD BEEN ABOVE 265. Consequently, deaths are oviously going to increase.
Let me know when you want to stop getting spanked.

I don't think people fully appreciate how stupid this all is to compare where NY was to where Florida is.
Florida
Time June 3-->July 7
Cases (7 day) 876-->8587
Deaths (7 day) 35-->48
New York
Time- March 20--> April 13
Cases (7 Day) 1148--> 9306 (peak was a few days earlier, April 10, at 10,059)
Deaths (7 day) 15--> 956(!)
What this shows is that there isn't the lag to explosion in deaths that you're waiting for. You're talking peak differences in like 10 deaths, that's a single nursing home having a bad week.
The New York numbers were rocketing at a time where the only people being tested were those that had serious symptoms. Hence why the death rate spiked massively. What we're looking at as this terrifying increase all around the country is a combination of sure, more cases after opening and much more testing. Which is why these "terrifying case numbers" aren't accompanied by a death trend.
But you don't want to hear that. The mass deaths are coming I'm sure. Florida I guess just moves slowly because they're in the south.
