You don't have to do anything or stir it or worry about it boiling over. Just press the button and come back later and you have rice.

White guy here. I grew up cooking rice in a pot and am good at it. Rice cookers are easier and just as good. I have a cheap one from a Taiwanese brand called Tatung and I turn it on and never touch it again until it's ready.

The other huge and overlooked benefit of a rice cooker is that you don’t need to time when it will finish. When stovetop rice is done you have ten minutes to eat it.

A nice rice cooker will keep rice in perfect shape for at least 6 hours and decently edible for 12 hours. So for instance today my wife made Japanese curry. We turned on the rice cooker before walking the dog and picking up some groceries. At dinner 90 minutes later without worrying about watching the stove the whole time.

here is my goy pot rice recipe:

4 tablespoons butter

some kosher salt

2 cups white rice

4 cups + a scant more of water

Put in a pot with a tight lid (use a pot big enough so the rice/water only comes up about half way) on the stove on high

after a few minutes, start watching it closely. As soon as it boils, turn off the burner. Keep an eye on it for a minute more or so and lift the lid briefly if looks like it will boil over (if it does, you waited too long to turn off the burner). After a minute or so the risk has passed, so walk away (leaving the lid on).

20 minutes later you have rice

rice cookers are better if you want to add ingredients or flavoring. I often make cheesy rice to go with chicken and shrimp tacos. very easy: just add shredded cheese on top of rice in my $30 rice cooker from Target.

lol at eating rice unless you are literally trying to avoid starving to death (hence why it's popular in 3rd world gook cultures).

Rice expands in your stomach and keeps you full longer. Also good for absorbing alcohol if you are going to be binge drinking.

The dirty secret about azns and rice cookers is that they will leave the rice in the cooker on the keep warm function for as long as 48hrs and still eat the rice. I bought a Japanese rice cooker a while ago and there was some MAF azn who left a review that was furious the the keep warm function stayed on for "only" 12hrs.

yeah massive difference tbh. other shit brands, the rice cooker will break after a month or two of regular use. they'll also make shittier rice and don't have different settings for different grains (brown v white, long v short grain, oatmeal, quinoa, etc). Its worth it to spring the extra shillings for a Zojirushi

You can get a 3 cup zojirushi rice cooker that I had in my 600 square foot nyc apt that barely had a kitchen. Asians all over Asia live in tiny cramped spaces and all have rice cookers. Anyone who thinks cooking rice in a pot comes out the same consistency and texture as a quality rice cooker has never had good rice. Zojirushi only.

All the made in japan ones advertise it prominently on the box and usually with a big sticker on the front of the rice cooker itself.
