MGS3 is the greatest video game. Change my mind.

There is something that I see Kojima do over and over where he basically tells you the twist early on. He shows the DARPA chief getting killed on the torture rack in MGS1. But when it happens, you don't know wtf is happening, but he fucking shows you and you're probably surprised later somehow when he tells you again. He did the same thing at the start of operation snake eater — basically telling you exactly what The Boss's mission is if you read slightly between the lines. So, he could've done the ending without the narration, which would make it a higher-IQ game, but he shrewdly, and correctly, chose not to overestimate his fanbase. I'm not exactly sure if the ending even qualifies as a twist, but I'd appreciate some more subtlety.
MGS3 btw is a seminal Game and, along with Fight Club and MGS2, an important Game for the PS2. However, I still think that MGS2 hit harder in its day, having perfected the old-fashioned stealth gameplay while also predicting the various MSM/big tech blackouts we suffer through today.

The story was total shit. The Skull Face jeep ride alone is ruinous. (note: doodikoff liked the story)
The only part of the story that was good imo was Kiefer's performance. "They're no sons of mind.... and they're sure as hell not me,"
Gameplay-wise, iirc I've gotten the top rank in MGS1-MGS4 but with MGS5 it was just too much and I couldn't tell if they outsourced some of the development to lazy westerners or something. I think I got to the mission where you rescue Otacon from the lab, and Metal Gear is chasing you, and you have to hide from it, and I just couldn't S-rank it. I didn't know how to hide so the thing would never see me. Felt like I was playing some shit "stealth" game like Hitman, Engineered by Western Nerds making $77k in high COL areas, micromanaged by private equity Jews and their lackeys (and then later, the company goes bankrupt randomly like all western devs). With that said, if you just play the game normally, it actually has good stealth gameplay which, imo, MGS3-4 lacked as they represented an awkward transition away from Radar in an effort to be more realistic, but they replaced it with awkward af Camo.
More broadly, since most of the world in TPP is empty af, you could make an argument that Ground Zeroes > TPP, but that's not a can of worms (or a flame war) that I'll open itt. Camp Omega is a triumph, and hornless Big Boss proper is a privilege to play as. For me, killing those Marines while the American flag waves is more than worth the price of admission - very few games have you doing anything like this. MGS2 just had you sneaking past Marines, and even touching one would give you a game over. I think Kojima saw that our empire was unraveling and that it would be nbd to depict Marines killed savagely by Big Boss. GZ is arguably all we'll ever see of Big Boss being "bad" imho so it's an important entry for that reason.

Rare CR from cowgod
MGS3 was a complete triumph. Loved every bit of it and it had the most memorable final boss of all time. Easily a top two game of all time IMO
And I never said that MGS5 had a good story. It’s gameplay was sublime though

Kojima puts overarching Themes in his best games:
MGS1: Genotype/phenotype
MGS2: Memes
MGS3: “Scenery”
MGS4 is lol and MGS5 is just some shit about languages that nobody cares about.
I mean Cyprus was awesome but nothing else was memorable
