But India has entered its youth dividend or whatever they call it, for like next 30 years it will have a young population. This is same time as when China, Japan, Korea got rich, when they had young pops that could support manufacturing and exports.
Even if India grows at only 7% its going to become a top three economy, and eventually will surpass the US. Some projections have that by 2050. Unless it hits a wall like Indonesia or Thailand did, India should become a very powerful economy with a huge middle class and world class infrastructure. It also likely will become a cultural powerhouse globally given that so many ppl speak English.
But it likely never will surpass China. China is going to become so economically dominate the world hasn't seen such a thing maybe in all of human history. By 2040 it should have 3-4x US GDP. That's freaking immense. |

China has huge inequality, rebellious provinces and much less unity than people think, they don't innovate, they will have much more difficulty feeding 1.3 billion people with so much of their land polluted with so little arable area, and quality of life issues. In China, in many places it's dangerous to breathe and drink water.
On top of that, consider their debt and their likely economic slowdown. They're not going to "dominate" anything. They also do not innovate domestically, they copy and steal from others, and their culture and language is not influential or appealing. India's culture is much more popular and vibrant worldwide. |

at a certain point, the heat and the overcrowding just shuts down a lot of options in terms of improving quality of life. india has also been facing increasing fresh water provision difficulties across the north due to that overpopulation, which has the potential to be really fucking horrendous in places like the delhi blob which hit arizona-style temperatures during the summer. this is delhi:
