If you're a poormo who will pay nothing at Dartmouth, I would take that over probably any state school in the country assuming no ridiculous scholarship offer from the state school. On the other hand, I would choose almost any state school in the country over Dartmouth at sticker (especially since if you were admitted to Dartmouth, you probably have the credentials to get some kind of merit aid at most state schools). But in general I wouldn't pay much of a premium to attend Dartmouth over a state school, and if I lived in a state with a top-tier state school (CA, MI, VA, etc.), I wouldn't pay any premium at all.
