Then the U.S. China welding people into buildings and figured the shit was very bad - and that's why we reacted the way we did even though the disease is not that much more lethal than the flu.
I don't see why China would release it on purpose without much more of a plan. Admittedly things probably worked to their favor (at least temporarily) but I think China is lucky people have been lenient on them so far and its not out of the question that in the upcoming elections politicians run on a "fuck China" platform and just start waiving debt payments to China as reparations for Covid.
