You don't have any of the money you have now. You can fill one backpack with anything you like, so long as the total cost does not exceed $200 (no filling it with diamonds and then pawning them, etc.). You may not take regular paid work, but you can do odd jobs on a cash basis. You can also panhandle, seek out aid from strangers, etc. You may not rely on existing friends or family. If you spend more than 30 cumulative days in jail/prison during this period, then you don't get the money.

no thanks. the potential long-term costs to your health alone wouldn't make $1m worth it.

pros:

- more exercise, sunlight, etc.

- more exposure to "good" stressors, such a wider variety of pathogens

- more novelty and engagement

cons:

- shitty nutrition

- vastly higher chance of catastrophic injury (from a fall, exposure to the elements, hobo fight)

- shitty/nonexistent health care

the most likely scenario is with good risk management you could end up getting through this fine, perhaps even healthier than the average bald desk cuck, but there is a too-high probability of really bad outcome like getting severely injured and not getting adequate care.

one weird trick: packs bag and immediately reports to nyc dhs for a placement. live in a hotel with 3 square a day for a year. you have a place to stay, but you are "homeless".

single men definitely get the shit end of the stick w/r/t to placements though. your best bet is to do what a lot of homeless do. find a woman who is at least tolerable or even someone you can claim is your dad or your brother and then get a family placement. it's still same day but it's waaaaay better outcome.

I can't find a tolerable woman now, I doubt that will improve if I'm suddenly homeless. I guess I'll find a bro to help me out though and, who knows, maybe there's some way I can help him out too.

i dont know tbh. nyc's approach is basically to get you in the system, see if you can last long enough to get a voucher and then place you with the voucher. most families who get the voucher fail to secure the housing after the voucher expires, they get evicted and plop right back into the shelter system on a loop.

Yes but it would just be paper wealth. After year 1 you'd have a million in a brokerage somewhere and could put it in index funds or whatever, but you can't actually access the money until you call it quits on this.

Tremendously easy hypo. Would just go to NYC/SF/LA, and get work on CL or outside home Depot. Sleep in homeless shelters for the first few weeks. It's so easy, I'd probably just fill the backpack with a Gameboy and some booze

You can camp out in national parks. To the extent your occupancy is illegal, law enforcement will take no special action to find you, but if you spend too much time in jail you get nothing per the hypo

You realize in NYC and shit they pick up the homeless people and put them in shelters regularly right?

They would LOVE to "help" a normal person who wants help.

Yes. As others have said just get signed up with the homeless industrial complex in your coastal shitlib city of choice. Your housing, food and medical care are all taken care of right off the bat.

I would choose San Francisco or L.A. and try to get into a productive routine to pass the days.

Sample day:

Steal $900 worth of merchandise from local stores in the morning and sell at pawn shop or trade with other homeless for drugs.

Go grab free lunch from shitlib or Christian charity kitchen (while fucked up on bath salts to make it interesting).

Suck off some truckers for extra cash after lunch.

Watch sunset on the beach and catcall some cute girls by the boardwalk (also do more bath salts).

Get blackout drunk on gut-rot hobo whiskey.

Go pass out on a cot at the shelter. Rinse and repeat.

I honestly think I could make a decent income during my "homeless" year. Come out of it with more than just the $1 million after the year is up.

This is probably doable for introverts/autists. Just hang outdoors and do what you like on your own. For extroverts there is a big risk of getting too attached to the homeless lifestyle and getting gutter punk girlfriend with hepatitis, starting a hard drug habit, and befriending the kind of guys who could stab you and not even remember it in the morning.
