Hopefully they are released soon so kids can be safe. Herd immunity is achieved when a significant portion of the population is vaccinated or has contracted the virus. A large quantity of unvaccinated people creates a reservoir which the virus can survive in. Since people can only get infected by the same strain once, the viruses like the coronavirus must constantly mutate to be able to reinfect people who are immune to older strains from previous infections. It’s the only way the virus can survive long term. With a large reservoir of non-immune people, the virus will inevitably mutate into a strain that the vaccines don’t protect against. |
