Dipoto had to do the trade ASAP because the other guy included (who is shit pure shit) was already DFA and it was time sensitive.
They like Graverman because he rehabbed all the way back with the team and he's overachieved but he was on a one year and they weren't going to pay him next year. He was always a deadline move piece and the guy they got back from the Astros has gone like 9/19 with 2 dingers since coming over.
This Mariners team was never going to seriously contend for a wild card spot and that says more to how MLB is constructed right now. I got to pay attention until August. That's as good as gets for Ms fans these days. |

Graveman was only under contract through this season, but Castillo is under contract for a couple years. So they lost a couple months of a closer who had been good this year but didn't have a long track record of success, and 30-year-old setup/middle reliever who also had a good year but not a track record of success, and got a couples years' control of a good closer with a multi-year track record of success, and a young infielder that fills a position of need and looks to be an offensive producer.
Castillo blew a save in his first appearance with the M's, which sucks, but he's got a good track record. Toro homered in his first two games as a Mariner.
