Some background:

Apparently this was a special international Star Search episode, so he was brought b/c he was Canadian

He said later on Letterman that absolutely no one laughed (apparently a laugh track was filled in for air)

He said he received the lowest score ever: 3/4 star; he said later he figured it out. Three judges gave him 1 star, and one judge gave him 0 stars lol

Much of this material made it into one of his first stand-up specials about a year later. You could tell he rushed it in Star Search b/c he only had a little time, but it's still solid material:
