+ look at market cap of circulating supply, FDV and tokeonomics (vesting schedule, whether there's a large proportion allocated to VCs that could potentially dump, etc.).

+ consider whether the token has any momentum as measured by development or users or whatever metric you can find

+ check out the discord, see what the devs and community are doing, see if they seem to know wtf they're doing

for example: take a look at LIQ. circulating market cap is around $10M right now; FDV is $20M. that's still tiny for a SOL microcap.

okay, is the project developing any momentum? looks like it's a risk engine used by leveraged defi platforms on Solana like Bonafida, Mango, etc. and that it's being adopted by many other DEX protocols. what are the odds that more platforms like those spring up and use LIQ? pretty decent, i bet, given that risk engines are tricky to write, and regulation over leveraged centralized exchanges will probably drive users to leveraged DEXes in the future.

does the LIQ crew know what they're doing? probably yes if they have adoption with Bonafida/Mango, but you're better off researching this for yourself than relying on anyone's word for it.

what are the risks? LIQ is highly susceptible to regulatory crackdown since it's triply leveraged to crypto at large, the success of solana, and leveraged defi. also microcaps routinely lose 75% of their value overnight and are illiquid if you have more than lunch money in them.

anyway, this is not a rec to buy LIQ, but more an illustration of my thought process behind analyzing SOL microcaps. but these are the sorts of factors that you'd review if you wanted to benchmark other shitcoins. (e.g. LIQ would obviously be less attractive if it had a circulating market cap of $750M, was only used by one sketchy leveraged defi platform, etc.).

there are some major issues with the code keys apparently but if it pans out could be huge

massive liquidations though so has to be expected as it goes up
