- Durability. You're buying something that's overbuilt for daily needs, so change the fluids regularly and it runs. When things do break down, parts are cheap.
- Outdoor activities. It's easier to throw 3 bikes in the back over a tailgate protector than it is to deal with racks. You can also just hose out the bed easily. Sure, a Subaru can do fire roads, but a GMC Canyon can take them even easier.
- Value. Trucks hold resale way better than cars. You can drive a Tacoma or a Jeep for YEARS and still get surprisingly good and quick resale on them.
- Seating position/view. Some people like being able to see over traffic. |

I see 62k+ for much lower packages on these trucks, and holy shit the high end Ford F250s are pushing 100k, I don't know what to think. Do I find a high end Ford 250 w/ 6.7 diesel King Ranch more desirable than, say, a Porsche 911 - yes I do - but damn are these prices stiff.

3. The back seat of a car is more useless for some people than the bed of a truck
4. Resale value generally better
5. With a lot of Cars, maintenance is dystopian — taking out the dash to replace a heater core or whatever, taking off front bumper to replace whatever, pulling engine to do some maintenance on European cars. Trucks are much more chill and less gay when it comes to this stuff.

Others like to imagine and enjoy toodling around their suburb at 25 mph picking up groceries in a massive diesel truck with 10k pound towing capacity even though they would struggle to correctly attach a trailer and have nothing to move that wouldn’t fit in a mom car.
Also I don’t know whether you’ve driven a Nissan shitbox sedan recently, but it fucking sucks sitting down at road level surrounded by huge trucks and SUVs that could go right over you and keep going. Some people are bothered by this for intangible reasons, but the real problem is that you can’t fucking see down the road and any collision at highway speeds is probably the end of life as you know it. Even if you are a great driver you have much lower defenses against other people’s fuckery in a tiny car when the average vehicle is double the size and weight.

putting aside peoples' interests and hobbies that require cargo space, being above traffic is a big deal. i can't imagine going back to sedan. i had to drive a subcompact for a bit and it was a pain in the ass to get in and out and i felt as if i was driving with my ass to the floor. being a bit above traffic made it easier to be a defensive driver. |

If pickups didn’t rust, they would never need to be replaced, and based on what I see running around no rust areas, that’s actually true. You need all sorts of old Toyotas and domestic trucks on the west coast, mountain west, and the south.
Most new pickups are too complicated and are crap long term.

It can tow anything I need, has plenty of room to store shit in the back, and is just really practical. I live in BFE though. If I lived in a metro area, I'd probably be driving something smaller.
