I thought he’d be a bit more tolerable but I really hated him during the entire show. He’s disloyal to his family and friends, always eating and laying about the house in a robe, bitching and complaining all the time, and looks terrible. His family sucks too. Not sure how people tolerated AJ’s scenes because I had to fast forward all of them. Most of Meadow’s subplots sucked too. It’s a decent show overall I just didn’t expect to hate Tony so much. That said, look at his family. His wife has a cushy life and constantly complains while embracing UMC striverism. His daughter is the same, except she's a proto-SJW too. His son's a wreck. His mother's insane. His father was also a sociopath who was a poor father and husband (e.g. him being with his goomar while his wife miscarried, never spending time with his kids hence why it was Junior who taught Tony how to play baseball, etc.). His sister is manipulative and conniving. His other sister wanted to keep her distance from this thing of ours. His 155 IQ cousin Tony B was in hindsight also pretty shortsighted and foolish.
His two father-like mentor figures, Junior and Hesh, were either consumed by petty jealousy or greed (Tony constantly looked out for Hesh and his interests, and in the end, Hesh ruined the relationship over a 200k loan that Tony was always going to make good on). His protege, Chris, is a shortsighted wreck. His righthand, top earners both were messes in different ways.
The only unequivocally positive figures in his life were his psychiatrist (lol) and Artie. And in between their own problems and lives, they could only influence Tony so much.
You are the sum of the people you associate with, and a 135 IQ can only carry you so far. |
