Hegemon*

Considering trying to pick one up when the bonus gets paid. Tough to find these days though.

It’s neat but fucks up all the controls and just adds complexity in the buffer and bolt

Yeah, but it’s legal in my state, whereas a normal AR isn’t. Wondering if it’s worth it just to pick it up and not have to fix a 30 rd magazine in

My issue with the mini-14 (and all m14 variants) is that they poorly bedded (wood, high tolerances, etc.) and the heavy piston and gas systems throw the zero off when the rifle isn’t warmed up.

I’ve heard complaints of the SCR trigger, but this way I could at least pick up some white oaks uppers.

Accuracy reports from the internet are largely flame, unless you’re putting magnification on it specifically to shoot paper from a rest you’ll never know

lol I've experience with two mini-14s and the better one grouped at 4" at 100 yards, with no visible barrel wear or damage. I buy the accuracy complaints.

Have you heard any other issues with the SCR other than awkward ergonomics and a rough trigger?

No, I have a buddy in a shit state who likes his except for the ergos, and he says his trigger is just fine.

edit: he threw a nice upper on his; the upper it comes with is garbage (shitty barrel, not designed for any accuracy with sustained fire), but the upper isn't the point of the SCR lol.

If your only option is a featureless, go for it. As hank said, the ergos suck but I'd take it over the alternatives. An ambi or extended mag release would fix a good bit of that, provided your finger could reach it.

I haven't been able to play around with one so I don't know how well they shoot and whether their modified bolt/buffer system are solid, but I'd give it a shot. Put a tack driver upper on it, do what you can to improve the ergos/handling, and see if it won't work for you.
