But if Covid recedes more this year and inflation drops and this correction is small it’s actually a perfect scenario for the Dems to mitigate losses (granted that’s a lot of ifs). Also Trump campaign drove turnout not the RNC/GOPe and the Trump campaign did GOTV basically on its own while the Dems sat it out last cycle. There’s reason to believe the expectations game right now being played is all set up as a rug pull for Trumpmos. Seems inevitable that the GOP retakes the House but could easily end up that Dems keep senate or GOP retakes by a vote and Murkowski or Romney is the GOP version of Manchin and if the House is a small enough majority then a much of moderate GOPers in the House will fuck everything up for McCarthy if he’s even able to hold on and become Speaker. You seem to wildly overestimate the abilities of McCarthy who is widely acknowledged to be a hack and not respected in the House caucus, nor by McConnell. Especially if McConnell needs Murkowski and Romney to do anything it will be two straight years of Trump bitching that McCarthy is too weak and can’t get an impeachment done and if Trump then loses the primary the epic tantrum he will throw will destroy the chances of DeSantis or whoever. Also as always 90% of the 2024 outcome depends on the economy that fall, and if the crash happens now and the rebound is swift it will be hard no matter what. Overall the midterms, especially with only bare majorities, feels like a high potential to end up as a booby prize.
