There are basically no normal guys out there over 35 who are never been married, have no kids, are educated and have good jobs and can form complete sentences. I know a ton of divorcees who are far from normal and forced their marriages to seem normal.
One of them is chick who got pregnant on purpose TWICE in order to force the dude into marriage. Worked the first time, not the second. But she did stay marriage for at least 7 years, had two kids, ended in divorce. Now she's a single mother of 3 kids from different fathers.
Chick 2: Married a total psycho at age 22. Was proud as fuck for having been the first one who married in her group of girlfriends. Ended up becoming an alcoholic to deal with her psycho husband, attempted suicide twice, was admitted to rehab, the husband took pics of her passed out and puking in order to keep the kid, horror story.
Chick 3: Both doctors. Dude is a gigantic asshole, she brought in most of the money in the family because her specialty pwns his. She stayed with him "for the sake of the children" but divorced once kids were beyond 17. She said he never helped out with kids or around the house despite the fact that she contributed more than him in income, the house is hers, and he was such a dick that he made fun of her because she didn't read any literature and made fun of her in front of the kids, at some point the kids also made fun of her. It was disgusting.
So yeah, normal people get married and only weirdos don't. All the people above mentioned appeared "very normal" in social and family events, social media, etc. Of course, this is only what they wanted everyone to believe. The reality is that there's a shitload of horrible dysfunctional people who are married and some very normal singles who don't want to get involved with people they're not compatible with just to please society. |

every person i know who got together with someone in the 30s did so by dating intentionally. if you're just looking to "be casual and have a good time" in your 30s, then you are not seriously looking for partnership. which is fine for some people. but if you're in your 30s and still swiping than you have to know that the clock is ticking and you don't have time to waste on maybes. i'm not saying every date should be treated like a job interview or whatever. but you're not in college anymore, and if you're serious about wanting a family than that has to always be in your mind. |

before you seriously think this is the way you want to go, spend some time in the foster care system. a baby or toddler might be "annoying" to you. but often these kids are irrevocably broken by their elementary school years.
a lot of people successfully foster and adopt these children. however, they have to have hearts of gold and a shit ton of patience. a kid that winds up in the state system at that age generally has seen and gone through a lot of shit and will have the psychological scars and behavioral problems to show for it. so many of these kids wind up getting "returned" by well intentioned foster parents because they are way too much to handle. and that just compounds the problem and results in the kid "learning" that any adult that professes to care about them will inevitably dump them later.
finding some good natured oliver twist is a unicorn bordering on fantasy. once you seriously start thinking about this i highly recommend you take some time volunteering in the state system. they always need people. and if you do go that route and succeed, that's an incredibly noble and generous thing to do. but just remember - it's going to be HARD. |

this is kind of a weird comparison and isn't meant to trivialize foster kids in ANY way, but: my last relationship almost feels like a trial run for adopting a traumatized teen. if i could take care of my emotionally damaged, physically abusive, dishonest, unemployed, ungrateful ex's ass for 2.5 years and love him throughout it all, i know i have a lot of patience for giving more than i take. and that's not something i'll put up with in relationships anymore, but it's kind of what parenting is all about, right? |

yeah, maybe! some tolerance for broken things is definitely going to be necessary, so maybe that helped. and i've seen some truly heartwarming results, so it's not impossible. but i've also seen people go in with the best of intentions and wind up making a kid worse by making them more distrustful of well meaning adults. this is kind of the same spiel i give everyone that wants to volunteer (or foster or adopt): it's one of the most noble and generous things a person can do, but it's without a doubt going to be one of the hardest things to do and commit to. |

yeah the spiel i gave you is something you'll probably hear a few times. these kids get let down a lot by people with good intentions. your first inclination when you start volunteering is going to want to "rescue" one. so you make some promises or wishes, but they don't get fulfilled for one reason or another, and now you just let the kid down. just something innocent like "you've never been to santa monica pier before? we could go sometime!" then bam, your irl job gets in the way, you never see this kid again, and you're just another adult that made a promise that didn't deliver.
sorry if i'm beginning to sound like a broken record. you'll get the warning a few more times by staff, i guarantee it.
but yeah - go reach out! it's one of the few things i do that makes being a rent-seeking, comma-checking wagecuck a bit more fulfilling. |
