I helped an attorney friend of mine with a tough case. I declined to take a fee on the case and helped him increase the offers by double. To thank me he took me, my wife, and his girlfriend out to Pasta Bar in Encino (https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/california/encino/restaurant/pasta-bar). We went on Saturday, the day after I did Cut with the XO crew.
This meal was unusual because we actually all did the wine paring. I have to say the addition of the wine really added to the meal. Since I went to Cut the night before and splurged, I decided to skip lunch on Saturday. So I was nice and hungry and ready for this meal. The ingredients weren't as crazy as a place like Providence, Guy Savoy, or Melisse (not a ton of truffle that I could tell, no steak, and very little caviar), but the food was definitely close to being on that level.
The dessert was 180 and the homemade ice cream with caviar was probably my favorite part. As far as price, it runs about the same price as Melisse WITHOUT the wine, so it is a pretty decent value. I also really like that it is a very small restaurant (only about 12 seats) and you are eating basically in the kitchen. There were about 4 chefs all working together and they personally serve you most of the food, explaining everything you are eating.

This shit seems sooo overpriced and overrated.
All that money for a couple bites of food? Good thing you didn’t have to pay anything for it. “Fine dining” seems like such a scam

Even assuming expensive ingredients, so what? It’s not the expense that really matters but how they are put together and the overall taste.
Yes I understand this is some expensive unique thing, but it seems so silly. You should receive increasing food taste returns as the $$$ spent on your meal goes up, but this does not occur. There should be no universe where you spend hundreds of $$$ just on food and it is merely an “acquired taste.” For that kind of money the food should blow you away.
I really think “fine dining” is an elaborate charade to separate rich people from their money by conning them into feeling “cultured.”

Brother, I net 500-600K/month. I'm not overly concerned about good use of money. I do the things that make me happy. That is basically food, sex, travel, video games, movies, shooting, lifting, etc. If I spend $2,000 on dinner I don't even care to think about if it is worth it. I think it is because I have a great time and I enjoy the food a lot. If I have a good time, that's good enough. I spend like 1% of my annual earnings (I have very low expenses and discretionary spending). It's not worth it to overthink how that 1% is spent.
