My favorite is the Pesci “why am I funny scene” . Pesci stole every scene he was in

The scene tracking liota and bracco down into the restaurant is amazing

The scene where Pesci is whacked is still shocking

Also the scene where liota’s arrested where he breaks down his whole day hour by hour

The Michael imperioni scene is memorable but it didn’t hold up as well as I remember

When liota beats up bracco’s neighbor and when bracco flips out on liotas girlfriend and points a gun in liotas face also all stood out to me

Id agree with your third paragraph especially when he talks directly into the camera if I’m remembering correctly. All great scenes though.

the scene where he gets out of jail and finds out that she flushed the coke when the cops knocked...that scene was probably the inspiration for the breaking bad scene where walt got into the crawlspace and found out that skylar had given most of his money away to Ted for the irs payment

still love the cocaine segment, where he's watching the helicopter overhead, takes his eyes off the road, slams on brakes an inch short of rear-ending another car, camera does 3x zoom shot of his bloodshot face, lmao.

i think Liotta made the movie. he was very appealing in the role. without him, it would have turned into another formulaic edition of 'The DeNiro and Pesci and Scorcese Goombah Hour', like Casino, which is kind of a lame movie compared to Goodfellas.

two things that jump out in my memory:

- the opening titles that move like traffic to the sounds of traffic

- the final scene where liotta answers his door in the bathrobe in arizona and talks to the camera

Both just masterful, amazing cinema. And that's just the first and last things you see.

What is the oscars story? That it wasnt nominated for MOTY or was and lost to some piece of shit? lmao. It's one of the goat movies ever. lol at "academy awards". even more egregious than the metallica losing grammy to jethro tull thing

scorcese's top four

1. goodfellas

2. departed

3. casino

4. taxi driver

and i genuinely liked taxi driver but all those other films were his brand of fast moving cinema and were a huge step beyond having people walk around nyc in the 70s faking brooklyn accents.

Rewatched today. My favorite bits aren’t the killing and violence stuff or any of the scenes with the oft-quoted lines. I like the scenes where they’re just hanging out and talking shit. Just bros hanging out with their bros, drinking and laughing and fucking around. I’d watch a two-hour recut of the movie with only those scenes.

Funny thing: Every time that scene comes on where he (as narrator) introduces 20 of the gangsters, I forget that almost all of them don't matter and won't even show up again for more than 3 seconds
