That was the plan in 2016 in the event GOP had won. They were also going to tack on a mass-amnesty. Trump maybe got them to put a pause on amnesty plans, but Romney's platform was basically the status quo of decriminalized illegal immigration which is what the GOP has apparently reverted to. |

It's hard to look at DeSantis and not be impressed. The guy isn't afraid to tackle deep state / woke establishment. He went to war with Disney, after all.
DeSantis knows the problem isn't just holding on the WH and appointing R judges and passing tax cuts. The problem is the permanent Fed bureaucracy, aka deep state, pushing DEI and CRT mandates through federal policies affecting contracting and regulation and education, even when a R is in the White House. He knows the division of power isn't between three branches of the government: Congress, the WH and SC, but between five entities which includes the permanent Fed bureaucracy and the media. The latter two are 95% hardcore progressives by this point, and in increasingly ways, more powerful than either Congress and even the SC at this point, and they are the major obstacles facing any conservative president.
He understands to fight this you need to behave like an insane Democrat. Trump didn't have the appetite to reform DC or the Deep State. He made a few half-hearted attempts at trying but gave up and just passed tax cuts.
Look, I do wish Trump had been a bit more controlled, and what he had to face from the legacy media and the Democrats was insane, but he also brought some of it upon himself. His antics following his loss was embarrassing. Yes, the election was murky, yes, the Democrats cheated by changing the rules, yes, the media was so slanted against him while protecting Biden. But he should have played for the long run and hunkered down and waited for Biden to inevitably make the fool out of himself, then came roaring back. But he really shot himself in the foot behaving like a spoiled toddler stamping all over his toys because he didn't get his way. He's damaged goods at this point. And we know if he somehow manages to win in 2024, he'd just get bogged down on personal vendettas against his Democratic, and even Republican enemies, rather than the lasting, meaningful reform needed to battle back the aggressive tides of wokery.
DeSantis has show capacity to fight, and in areas that count. Policy reform, aggressive combatting the Federal bureaucracy, especially in the subtle ways that would be needed. Not pointless twitter wars. He's not the only person with the appetite to fight back, but for various reasons the consensus among conservatives is coalescing around him. Two years is still a long way away so things can change. But for those of you saying you're still waiting to be impressed by DeSantis, what exactly are you looking/waiting for? |
