Durham still has some sketchy areas and it has a higher crime rate than most of the rest of the Triangle. But even the worst parts of Durham don't hold a candle to place like Baltimore or Philly, IMHO. |

macon, georgia (depressing low-density gangland ghetto common in the deep south; lots of decaying houses and little corner stores with brick walls and bars on the windows). see also: jacksonville, north carolina; columbia, south carolina; columbus, georgia; bogalusa, louisiana; port arthur, texas; selma, alabama; greenville, mississippi.
benton harbor, michigan (the black ghetto portion of the st. joseph metro area; they had a race-riot in 2003). upper-midwest ghettos are their own category of woe. see also: saginaw, michigan. flint, michigan. jackson, michigan. toledo, ohio. youngstown, ohio. niagara falls, new york.
also, the seemingly-random NYC suburbs like irvington, NJ or bridgeport, CT which turn out to be shitty little ghettos.
