Yes, this is a result of the slowdown in gas pipeline shipments by Russia, but it still means money going out of Russian pockets and into ours.

Why do I need to cope more? Russian O&G is being redirected to India and China. And somehow Egypt is now a major exporter of LNG. Egypt is magically exporting more LNG than Qatar. All that LNG is, of course, Russian LNG. EU was never buying Russian O&G out of kindness but because it was cheapest option on the table. Now India and China get the subsidy and EU manufacturing is in a 6.5% contraction.

Except at significantly higher prices. And, of course, because we're sending it to Europe that drives up prices here. But great for US O&G companies, bad for the EU, bad for Americans, probably a wash for Russia (Russia loses the EU market but transports elsewhere, overall gas prices are much higher so even with a discount to India/China they make more than under Trump).

We are absolutely willing to accept their sacrifices for Western Democracy (TM). To the extent that this leads to significantly higher energy prices, that will just help promote the green energy revolution. Therefore, the sacrifices of EU and US citizens are also acceptable.

Also, have you heard that bugs are very nutritious and have a lot of protein? Far greener than meat.

Cool story. Russia will ship the coal to India which will then resell the coal. The exact same scheme is being used with the oil. Exactly nothing will change. The price of coal is up in response to this crazy. India eats the arbitrage. Russia makes the exact same money it was getting before. Western idiots pay more. The entire exercise is sheer insanity.

if we'd prepared for this moment at all, like by resolving pipeline bottlenecks out of permian and marcellus and/or expanding our lng export terminal capacity, we would be printing cash and feeling self-righteous while doing it. instead we kowtow to arab states and re-run mid-2000s strategic petroleum reserve and ethanol playbooks as if we hadnt discovered world-beating energy stores in those intervening years. i think biden is owned by some chinese wind/solar giant. its the only explanation for being this obtuse.

Cool story. Guess that means 2.4 billion Indians and Chinese will sign on to Russia sanctions any day now.

Russia is the most self sufficient civilization on earth. What exact supply chain is China even capable of squeezing?

you’ll see when they become your major consumer of energy and it’s either take their price or let the pipelines sit idle)

As opposed to when Germany was eating 80% of the O&G....

Also, its not just China. India too. And increasingly Latin America. Even Mexico has been importing cheap Russian LNG.

Buying Russian oil at a huge discount is a sanction, whether you want to admit it or not. Hell, the EU is discussing imposing just this sanction on Russia themselves. Just because Russia "likes" the countries doing the sanction now doesn't change what it is.

Its not a sanction when the "sanction" first makes the price of the thing go up 50% (and in the case of LNG -- 800% v. piped product). Russia is making more FOREX today than it did in February. If the argument is other producers are making even more -- cool, but that just means idiot Western consumers are paying more across the board. This shit is obliterating Western manufacturing. China is getting a gigantic subsidy in energy. This means petrochemical plants all over Europe are legit going bankrupt. Unilever, and BASF may not survive the year as operating entities. This is a strategic disaster for the West if the goal is to contain China. China was a manufacturing powerhouse before but with Russian help it is obliterating the few competencies Western Europe still had.

Compare their revenue now even with discounts compared to under Trump when oil was so plentiful it was basically worthless.

dont get me wrong, weve been growing gas exports at a good clip for several years. clearly the us government is more or less on board with supporting this business. but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a 10 year jump on growth, if only the govt would support it directly.
