I too was up well before the sun and have already travelled many miles and accomplished many tasks. I have not yet reached resolution, and I have not exercised. Take flying for example. In the last 20 years, the experience of taking a standard domestic flight from point A to point B has declined dramatically. At the same time, I look at LaGuardia and it's like Disney World now. They fixed the leaking ceilings and it's now a GC carnival. But planes are smaller than ever, service is worse than ever, fares are more than ever, and the passengers are more sloppily dressed and more sloppy themselves. We've lost the substance and gained a new shiny wrapper in its stead.

Applied to one's own life, its easy to feel like you've lost the substance and are just going through the motions. When you look in the mirror, you can see a wrapper, but nothing else.

I find it important not to take certain things in life so seriously (eg, career). Think about things that make you happy and figure out ways to pursue those things. For example, I don't have kids yet and 1 thing I get really excited about is going camping with my bros and dropping acid in nature. So I plan these trips and get really hyped for them. Even though it's just 2 or 3 days, the whole process of planning the trips, provides purpose. My friendships take on an almost spiritual dimension, and I am much happier because of it.

Making your career the entire focus of your existence is a fool's game. You have much less agency in that respect. Aside from just the actual tasks and responsibilities of a given job, the combination of salary, stress levels, and stability are mostly predetermined by the "market." Thinking you can find the perfect job for you is more about finding the trade off between salary, stress, and stability that best fits your personal preference than about finding some "dream" job. Of course, this doesn't include entrepreneurial type income or "working for yourself." That's a whole other thing.
